Pertinent information on safety zones is defined in Inyo County Code Title 9 Public Peace, Morals, and Safety, III. 9.28.010 - 9.28.060. Users should be aware of all sections before using this data. Below are excerpted sections describing the nature of safety zones:</SPAN></SPAN></P><UL STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;padding:0 0 0 0;"><LI><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>9.28.010 Declaration of findings and purpose.</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>A. There are certain areas in Inyo County in which the discharge of firearms should be prohibited for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety.</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>B. It is the intent of this board that certain zones be designated wherein it will be prohibited to discharge firearms. (Ord. 418 § 1, 1981.)</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN /><SPAN /></P></LI><LI><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>9.28.020 Safety zone—Defined.</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>“Safety zone” means an area designated by the board of supervisors in this chapter by legal description and by reference to a recorded map. (Ord. 418 § 2, 1981.)</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN /><SPAN /></P></LI><LI><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>9.28.040 Firearm discharge prohibited.</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>It is unlawful for any person, except in the defense of his/her person or property, to discharge any firearm or other deadly weapon within a safety zone. (Ord. 1106 § 3, 2006: Ord. 418 § 4, 1981.)</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN /><SPAN /></P></LI><LI><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>9.28.050 Posting.</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN><SPAN>Safety zones shall be posted with signs at least ten inches by twelve inches in size and reading: “NO SHOOTING.” Such signs are to be displayed at intervals not less than three to the mile along the exterior boundaries, and at roads and trails entering such lands. Maps of safety zones and wildlife viewing areas shall be made available where feasible at the county seat and at various locations designated by the sheriff’s department throughout the county.
